What these technologies do

Cookies are small pieces of information that a website can store in a browser and read later. Local Storage is a separate browser feature that can also retain information between visits. Both can be used to recognise a browser, but a Local Storage identifier is not an analytics cookie. Server logs are different again: they are records made by the server when it handles requests.

The information available for this site identifies administrator login cookies and a self-hosted analytics setup being connected during installation. It does not establish that analytics is currently active for visitors. It also does not establish a complete inventory of any other storage technologies that WordPress or its installed components may use.

Administrator login

WordPress uses authentication cookies for administrator login. Their purpose is to maintain access to the administration area after an authorised administrator signs in. Visitors who do not sign in to that area do not need these cookies for an administrator session.

The names, expiry periods and detailed settings of those cookies have not been supplied. Administrator authentication is distinct from measuring visits or showing advertising. No advertising is declared for this site.

Analytics setup

The analytics setup described for the site is self-hosted Kantan Analytics. If it is activated as described, it will measure visits, pages viewed, referral sources, countries, devices, clicks, scrolling and conversions. The described setup uses random identifiers in Local Storage, rather than analytics cookies, and does not retain IP addresses in its statistics. External webhooks are switched off.

A random identifier can still be relevant to privacy because it may distinguish a browser across visits. Calling analytics self-hosted, or avoiding analytics cookies, does not by itself settle whether storing or accessing that identifier requires consent. Nor does the absence of IP addresses from analytics statistics establish what information may appear in separate technical server logs.

If analytics operates as described, detailed analytics records are retained for 90 days. Aggregates and summaries may be kept longer; a definite period for them has not been supplied. The duration for which the identifier remains in Local Storage has not been supplied. These record-retention periods should not be mistaken for the lifetime of a browser identifier.

Choice, consent and objection

Under UK rules, storing information on a visitor’s device or accessing information already stored there generally requires consent unless a relevant exception applies. An exception for statistical purposes depends on its conditions being met; it cannot be assumed merely because analytics is self-hosted or uses Local Storage. Administrator login cookies serve a different function from visitor analytics. The basis for using the described analytics identifier, including any applicable exception, has not been confirmed.

Simply visiting or continuing to browse the site is not consent to non-essential storage or access. If consent is required for a technology, it should be obtained before that technology is used, and visitors should be able to withdraw it. If a statistical exception is relied on, its conditions, including any applicable means to object, must be addressed. No site consent or objection control has been confirmed, so this page does not claim that one is available.

You can inspect or clear cookies and Local Storage through your browser settings. Clearing stored information can remove an existing identifier from that browser, but it does not erase records already collected and may not prevent a new identifier from being set on a later visit. Browser controls are not a substitute for any choice the site is required to provide.

Other records and questions

The server also keeps technical logs. Their retention period and the conditions under which their data may be transferred have not been confirmed. The site uses Contabo for hosting. Public forms and comments are switched off, so this page does not describe visitor submissions through those features.

For questions about cookies, Local Storage or the use of your information, contact the operator, John Smith, at plotandpage.info@gmail.com. When asking about a browser identifier or an objection, it may help to explain which browser and device you used, but do not send passwords or other sensitive information.

Visitor statistics — Kantan Analytics

We use self-hosted Kantan Analytics to understand visits: pages, traffic sources, approximate country, device and browser, clicks, scrolling and paths through the site. The plugin uses browser Local Storage for random visitor and session identifiers, rather than analytics cookies. A separate first-party preference cookie can exclude the site owner’s browser from analytics for one year. Automation checks may set a session preference cookie to exclude technical visits. IP addresses are processed for country lookup and abuse prevention but are not stored in Kantan statistics. Detailed records are retained for 90 days; aggregates, summaries associated with random visitor identifiers and conversion records may be kept longer. Forwarding conversions to external services is disabled. For questions or requests, use the operator contact details on this page.
